VELELLA is a colorwork wrap featuring a detailed and elegant Persian-style motif, depicting a curiously beautiful sea creature called velella velella.
Velella velella, also known as by-the-wind sailors, are carried by the wind at the sails on their backs. When the winds change, they wash up ashore in the thousands, leaving a beautiful natural mosaic on our sandy beaches. Knit in the round, then steeked and embellished with delicate fringe and generous tassels, Velella is a
handmade piece to remember. A smaller, more demure cowl version is included in the pattern, with the velella motif wrapping all the way around the neck. A simple yet striking statement piece for any outfit!

Wrap requires 3 MC skeins + 2 CC skeins
Cowl requires 1 skein each of two colors

I recommend alternating skeins every few rows so that the colors blend properly. I know it’s a pain but you will be so much happier in the end. Do it for your sanity and your finished object.
Also, though technically true that superwash bases are machine washable on a gentle cycle, why not be kind and hand wash them? They’ll last longer! You’ve spent time and money to create your beautiful new object. It deserves a little extra love and care! Always lay flat to dry.
Also, also, I’ve tried really hard to photograph the yarns so that the color shows correctly. Unfortunately, you all can’t look at the lovely pics on my monitor. If you are unsure about a color/have questions please let me know. I will be happy to help!
All packages are shipped via USPS First Class, unless weighing over 13 oz. In this case, they’ll be shipped USPS Priority. Orders generally ship within 1-3 business days of purchase. For dye to order purchases, please allow 3-4 weeks for shipment.
You will receive an email notification as soon as your item is packaged and ready to ship, along with a tracking number. Tracking info may take 1-2 days to appear on the USPS web site. International shipments cannot be tracked after they have left the US.
